"The Tree Soldier" by Melinda Wagner and Rebecca Sacks (2011–2012)
The tree stands mute
with tender boughs,
a prayer of silver limbs,
A soldier, quiet, frightened,
steeled against steel,
rooted to the weary but giving ground.
And let us ponder this –
We are living an illusion.
Trees were here before us,
before our wars and fruitless visions.
It is time to learn that we belong,
and to let go
into the haven of the natural world.
with tender boughs,
a prayer of silver limbs,
A soldier, quiet, frightened,
steeled against steel,
rooted to the weary but giving ground.
And let us ponder this –
We are living an illusion.
Trees were here before us,
before our wars and fruitless visions.
It is time to learn that we belong,
and to let go
into the haven of the natural world.
